Howdy folks – iPhone 3g, and I’m getting horrific slow data speed. I don’t think it’s the network this time though. Operational speed is not an issue here, I’m actually not all that disappointed with device performance, particularly when it’s 2 revisions back.

Granted, this screen capture is at 3 bars, but I see the same speed regardless of signal strength. I had my father-in-law do a bandwidth test on his iPhone 4 (I know, different hardware, but still the same network) – he was getting 1.4mb. My latency has always been obscene.

Hard reset does not have any effect on the data speed
Wifi speed is very good, which leads me to suspect a possible issue with the 3g radio.

I’m currently running firmware 4.1 (8B117), modem firmware is 05.14.02. I can’t say with any certainty whether the 3g speed issue started when I installed 4.1.

Should I perhaps make the jump to 4.2 to see if I’m looking at an issue that could be solved by that?

I have to make the device last until at least March ’11, which is when I’m up for discounted upgrade, so I’m looking at possible troubleshooting routes.

My daughter is becoming quite a talented graphic artist, drawing cartoons and other storylines both on the computer and by hand. I am thinking about buying her an Apple desktop or laptop because I have heard that Apple is the preferred computer of graphic artists. Any opinions by graphics artists? I think the last time I used an apple was the Apple I back in the late 1970′s.
Also, any suggestions on graphics software? Is Dreamweaver a good program for this application? I am a IBM clone expert so I know this is not the best computer for this application. I am looking for specific information and opinions (not simply “I like it or dislike it). Give me specifics. Educate me!

apple’s are awesome in graphic and everything. i guess it just depends if you like laptops or desktops more. i prefer a dektop though. but i still have both. :]
Most people have lots of differing opinions on macs. I personally hate them, but my view has always been that way and always will. I would recommend a Dell or HP.

@vulpae2 I tok that from the top of my head, and actually, in 2003, the percentage that used mac was 2%, so I’m not completely wrong. The percentage of mac users now is around 6.5%.

@madichelp0 no you idiot, if you don’t want a PC to crash just simply don’t treat it like shit! End of! I bluescreened a Mac by opening Pro Tools, what does that say? Not to mention that beachball that pops up for half an hour every time you click on something!
@madichelp0 You do know that Apple has become the number one computer manufacturer in North America? That happened over the summer I believe. And Macs don’t get viruses easily because of the way the OS is designed.

The only reason windows crashes more is because there simply is more content. Virus developers wont care for mac, it’s like 1 % of all computers. Also, since there is so many programs, they cant be compatible with all others, there fore crashes are more likely. If you don’t want your PC to crash, just don’t download install any programs.

@AngryItalian83 if you noticed, most of these videos are from several years ago. A few years in technology is a long time. Mac OS is awesome now. PC does do a lot of things that Mac can’t do, but that is because of developers and software support. Apple also likes to put its foot down about nonsense, which is why Android and webOS will always be better than iOS, e non c’è una ragione essere un coglione. Mac è il migliore. Sto usandolo ora. Mi piace molto il mio MacBook.

i would suggest the new imac for desktop and macbook for laptop. (macbook pro seems a little too expensive, but if you got a large budget, go for it.)

@madichelp0 Okay, and I used a PC for all of a year before the hard drive crashed. Never had an issue with my MacBook Pro.
