Gearing for a greener planet

SEATTLE, United States – At Nokia, sustainability starts with product design and is woven into everything we do. We’re constantly working on new ways to design products that exceed global standards and raise awareness about phone recycling among consumers. Just last year, with your help, we collected approximately 415 tons of phones through our recycling programs and more than 6,000 collection points located in 100 countries spanning the globe. The products we recycle eventually become accessories, chargers and other cool electronic devices.

Think about it. When was the last time you cleaned out your kitchen drawer? You’d be surprised with what you might find in there. Jewelry, crumpled receipts, light bulbs, and in many cases, that cell phone you purchased five years ago. While you probably had good intentions of figuring out what to do with that phone, but the excitement of getting a new gadget made it easy to just toss your old device aside without thinking about how or where to properly dispose of it.

On November 15, the United States shines a national spotlight on recycling and sustainability with “America Recycles Day,” an event dedicated to motivating US citizens to recycle more.

As a recognized leader in sustainability, we’re proud to be hosting an educational recycling event in Seattle, Washington from November 11-15 encouraging consumers to bring their old mobile devices to be recycled and learn more about sustainable electronics design. Those people that bring in items for recycling can explore the science center for free and attend a screening for the film, Wild Ocean, sponsored by Nokia.

While having a day devoted to education and awareness around recycling is one thing we do each year, we still have a long way to go. A recent study by Nokia found that only about nine percent of consumers recycled their previous mobile device. So next time you’re rummaging through your drawers, keep an eye out for that old Nokia device you stashed away. Who knows, you might even take the next step to help make this world a better place.

If you’re in the Seattle area and are interested in participating, bring an old device and a friend to the Pacific Science Center from November 11-15 to celebrate “America Recycles Day” with Nokia, and to learn more about what you can do make your community more sustainable.

I have read some information regarding how AT&T and the Debit purchases are processed for our orders.   On July 3rd, I submitted my order for my 16GB iPhone 4, and was charged via my Bank of America Debit Card that I entered.   The total amount was sucessfully taken from my account and noted as “Processing” on my Bank of American Transaction History.   It was left that way until just a few minutes ago, when my transaction is no longer present on my Transaction History, and my Available Balance now is back to having the amount that was debited from my order.   I have read this is normal, and at the time my item is shipped, I will finally actually be charged, and I have read that this process is done to make sure the full amount is available.   Is this what has happened here? My order still says Back-Ordered and In Progress, and I’m just wanting to make sure that I will still be charged when the item is shipped.   Thanks.

I know I was excited when Apple announced the new Iphone 4. I can’t wait to get the Iphone on the 24th but my question is this   Why do people order from AT&T or Apple, then didn’t get confirmation email and instead of waiting for a few hours because any sane or logical people will know that AT&T and Apple are way backlogged from the preorder, continued to place another order either from AT&T or Apple ?   Do people not realized that by doing so, it create a bigger system backlog, duplicate orders, overinflated the sale quantity of the Iphones hence depleting the quantity on stock , and causes others to not be able to get their Iphones because Joe or Jane Blows had order 2 (1 from ATT and then “oh oh I didnt get my confirmation email but I have my order number, i am going to order from Apple”) and in reality he or she only qualified for 1 phone but was just too impatient to wait for confirmation email or the status to be updated.   The order status doesnt update right away even during non-event. It clearly stated that status placed within the past 24 hours maybe unavailable. Maybe AT&T didn’t really sell 600000 because half of them is probably duplicate orders?   This is whats wrong with America today ~ instant gratification…..can’t wait to show off the latest and greatest because of status quo….   Just had to vent…

When I first saw this commercial I just laughed, but I totally missed their point. It’s 3G coverage they are comparing. If you compare the AT&T 3G coverage map and Verizon, it’s laughable. I personally don’t have any issues because 3G is covered well in my well, but I’d hate to be in these smaller towns that are only get edge coverage. That commercial they have showing they serve 97% of America is a bit deceiving too because probably 75% of that coverage is just edge.

because power points are different. or does the charger plug straight in to the computer?

I know that on the West Coast, types of Palm Trees can grow (I am not sure if these are natural or just transplanted) as far north as Vancouver, BC, in Canada. I have heard that on the East Coast they occur naturally as far North as North Carolina. I have no idea about central [...]

The stellar Palm Pre gave Sprint a desperately needed sales boost, but it wasn’t enough to stem the tide of customers leaving the troubled carrier.
