Howdy folks – iPhone 3g, and I’m getting horrific slow data speed.  I don’t think it’s the network this time though.  Operational speed is not an issue here, I’m actually not all that disappointed with device performance, particularly when it’s 2 revisions back.

Screenshot - slow speed

Granted, this screen capture is at 3 bars, but I see the same speed regardless of signal strength.  I had my father-in-law do a bandwidth test on his iPhone 4 (I know, different hardware, but still the same network) – he was getting 1.4mb.  My latency has always been obscene.

Hard reset does not have any effect on the data speed

Wifi speed is very good, which leads me to suspect a possible issue with the 3g radio.

I’m currently running firmware 4.1 (8B117), modem firmware is 05.14.02.  I can’t say with any certainty whether the 3g speed issue started when I installed 4.1.

Should I perhaps make the jump to 4.2 to see if I’m looking at an issue that could be solved by that?

I have to make the device last until at least March ’11, which is when I’m up for discounted upgrade, so I’m looking at possible troubleshooting routes.

Any thoughts?

My daughter is becoming quite a talented graphic artist, drawing cartoons and other storylines both on the computer and by hand. I am thinking about buying her an Apple desktop or laptop because I have heard that Apple is the preferred computer of graphic artists. Any opinions by graphics artists? I think the last time I used an apple was the Apple I back in the late 1970′s.
Also, any suggestions on graphics software? Is Dreamweaver a good program for this application? I am a IBM clone expert so I know this is not the best computer for this application. I am looking for specific information and opinions (not simply “I like it or dislike it). Give me specifics. Educate me!

Oh, boy, is this a good time to be an Apple shareholder or what! The company has just published its financial report for the quarter ending in September and things just couldn’t be better. The company posted revenue of 20.34 billion US dollars, of which 4.31 billion were net profit. Not only are those the best results ever achieved by Apple, they are also immensely better than the one for the same period last year. In Q3 of 2009 the numbers stood at 12.21 billion and 2.53 billion dollars respectively.   The main driving force behind this spectacular success is the iPhone 4, which generated more than 14.1 million sales (a 91 percent year-on-year growth). In other words, they’ve almost doubled their iPhone sales. Now Apple has a worldwide market share of over 5.5 percent, which is really something considering the average selling price of 629 dollars. Plus, shortages have been plaguing the iPhone 4 ever since it was launched.   In fact Apple has just surpassed Sony Ericsson figures in terms of sheer number of units sold and depending on the LG, Motorola and RIM results, Apple might has just secured itself a place in the world’s Top 5 mobile phone manufacturers.   The other Apple products did impressively over the past three months too (save for the iPods that recorded an 11 percent decline in sales). A total of 3.89 million Macs were shipped, a 27 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter, but the real success story is the iPad, which sold in 4.19 million units. Yep, Apple has sold more iPads than Macs.   In his speech at the Apple’s earning’s call , Steve Jobs confirmed that a 7-inch iPad isn’t in the works as the company doesn’t believe that a screen that small would be enough for high-quality apps to be created. So a direct battle between Samsung and Apple won’t happen until early next year, when the Koreans will, presumably, launch their 10-inch slate.   In the Q&A session following the official presentation, Peter Oppenheimer, the Apple’s CFO, shared that the free-bumper program has so far cost them “just over 100 million [USD]“.   Story can be found here.

First off, this thread might end up being move or locked as it has nothing to do with apple iphone products., but I need to find out the reason fast.   Is it just me or what? I can’t seem to find a way to log in to the apple’s support forum. I was able to log in earlier and was able to post, but for some reason it won’t let me log in. Anyone else have a log in problem with the apple’s support forum?

Alright.. my apple order just changed to “prepared for shipment” & although I should be stoked, I’m actually really nervous.   I’ve wanted an iphone for a while now & when my contract expired I waited months for the new iphone to be released.. but now that it has, all I’ve seen are complaints & issues from people.   Is everyone having issues with it? (that’s what it seems like at the apple forums).   If you’ve had issues, have you had any trouble exchanging or returning the phone?    I’m hoping it’s not as bad as it all seems.. mostly because I know a lot of people who have had positive experiences with apple & their iphone products in the past, & because I’m not looking forward to going back to my 3 year old Blackberry hah.

Is there any advantage to getting the 32GB phone over the 16GB memory for the multi-tasking feature? Or is that not an issue on apple products like it is for windows?

I understand this may be a rule that Apple has, but there one of the only companies that do this. It’s like some just go with the flow and do anything a company asks of us. I always ask why I’m doing something if I don’t understand it and charging a restocking fee makes no sense to me. If I have a product that doesn’t work for me for some reason, why should I pay 10% of the total sales price when the companies mark up is more than enough to cover the costs when people return a product. They still get to sale it as refurbished and most of the time, they don’t have to do a thing to the product. Also, I’ve returned two apple products over the years and I’ve never been charged this fee, so I don’t understand why some stores charge it and some don’t.

I’m new to apple products. Could anyone briefly explain the major advantages of an iphone over a regular cell? I’m making a purchase soon and was going to go for nokia till I heard of this. Thank you for answering.

I’ve heard that employees get to purchase electronics at the price the store buys them from the manufacture at. Is this true? If not, what is the actual discount that one could get on Apple products? do best buy employees get discounts on cell phones, do best buy employees get discounts on apple products, do [...]
