I went to Radio Shack today hoping to upgrade my iPhone 3G to a 4.  Everything was going fine, until cashier said I’ve never seen this message – says you can’t upgrade due to excessive out of network useage.  No one there understood it, so I called AT&T.

They told me it was correct, I was inelgible for an upgrade.  They claimed I had too many calls that were off network.  I explained that I used my cell phone primarily as a business phone from my home – I’m self employed.  Plus my phone always says “AT&T” on the screen and I’d never had any communication from AT&T telling me my use pattern was going to impact my upgrade elegibility.  I asked two seperate customer service reps if this policy could be waived, given that I had been an AT&T Wirelelss customer since Sept 2006 and my current plan was well past the 2 year cut off.  No dice.  They told me no one at AT&T could authorize me for an upgrade!

I pointed out that I was paying AT&T nearly $1,000/year in fees for my iPhone voice and data plans and asked if they were willing to lose me as a customer.  Didn’t phase them.  Their only offer was to put an application on my phone that would tell me specifically when I was using out of network service.  I explained this isn’t going to help me since most of my mobile use is from my home – I’m not going to move just to meet some AT&T policy.  Plus I pointed out their online coverage map still shows my home as being within their coverage area.  But they were not going to compromise with me, no matter what I said.

So, AT&T, this is thanks I get for persevering with you.  Well, I guess you leave me no choice.  I’ll be shopping for a phone on another network.  Too bad – I was prepared to sign another 2 year contract with you today, but you blew it.

One Very Unhappy Customer

" alt="Really Bad Reception Since 2 Weeks Someone Help" class="left-thumbnail"/>

So hey there guys I am new ATT customer since 9/16/2010. Since about 2 weeks I have been having problems with reception first I realized it was in my house and now its about 5-6 blocks away as weel!   I live in New York so basically today It was a great way for me to make sure this is just not my house , if there is anyone from New York so I visited other parts of Queens and then when I was getting back home I was trying to text someone which is like 5-6 or maybe even 7 blocks away from my House and I had full bars and was not able to send that text or even make a call.   In my house I either get 1 bar or “Searching…” with 1 bar I can never make a call or anything.   So I called ATT and the service rep told me to go to Apple and get a replacment phone is that guy serious? it works perfectly fine in other areas and I will go to apple and get new phone because the guy wont admit that there is problem with my area ?   Someone who can point in anyone direction on how to solve this please someone help =) I like att services overall I am not complaining but I just want to get this resolved. THank you!

I purchased my 3GS at Release Day in July 2009.  AT&T customer since 2005, and I always pay my bills on time.  I’m not a big spender on AT&T ($45voice + $30iPhone) – 20% FAN   When I log onto OLAM, it says I am not eligible for any upgrade, including early upgrading pricing $399/$499.  I was hoping to pay $499 for early upgrade pricing for a 32GB.  I also tried the text message method, same deal.   I called Premier Customer Service, and they verbalized that while I *may* be eligible, it was currently showing in their system that I was not.     If this really is the case.. I’m PO’d.     And If I’m not happy, nobody is happy.  I am willing to re-up my 2-yr commitment with the Big T at $499/32GB.    Otherwise, I’m going to be pretty (expletives removed for G audiences) xxx’d off.     So if I’m relegated to buying the $699 unsubsidized iPhone, I’ll end up not buying from AT&T and will purchase a Factory Unlocked iPhone 4.  If I’m going to pay though the nose, I might as well have a Factory Unlocked device, and do what I please in 1-year time when my contract is over.     ** or ** maybe I’ll ETF @ $175 and just get a new contract and phone at $299.  It may be more cost effective to go this route.   Another plus is that the Factory Unlocked iPhone will retain a good portion of it’s value when I resell it for the next revision of iPhone.   Argh!

Hi, At&t can you be please kind and wave 2 months and make me upgrade eligible for iPhone 4 for the price of $199 16Gb or $299 32Gb ? Everebody who was not eligible till 12/31/10, is automaticly eligible for full discounted price, with new policy, and I strongly belive that two months wont do any difference to the company. Pleease help me and you will have one more happy customer…   Valued customer since 06/06/2005   iPhone Upgrade You can take advantage of our no commitment pricing at a participating retail sales location.
