I was thinking about upgrading to this phone but cannot afford to pay for the unlimited data usage plan along with my texting plan.

Phone Cards

does anyone out there actually have this & use it?  most of what i read is about high data usage on the iphone. am sheerly curious if one can actually own an iphone & do casual surfing, email checks on the 200mb plan. thanks in advance.  bub

How bad is the phantom data usage? I’m thinking of switching carriers but before I do, I want to make sure I’m not going to spend an arm and a leg on data. I use around 500mb or so pushing 4 email accounts and about an hr of Pandora per day,but I think my usage will increase since the iphone has way better apps than it’s competitor. Is 2gigs sufficient?

Just checked data usage. I just switched to iPhone 3G from Blackberry. I don’t use the phone for anything beyond checking email (no attachments), a little web surfing (mostly on home wi-fi network), and playing solitaire.

I have a quick question. What would cause 30835KB of data usage one night 2:34 am and another 34738KB on another night 6:52 am   Thats a whole lot of data, I have been using my phones data ever since I got it, probably more the first few days. So why now are all of the huge amounts of data being used up when I know I am not using it near as much?   Thanks,

I’m not receiving picture messages when my cellular data is turned off (is that the reason?)   The reason it’s cut off is because I’m using wi fi in the apartment but if it’s turned on with the wi fi will it affect my data usage? That’s why I turn it off.

If you are worried about the data usage, you can always view you old provider’s latest bill, and see how much data usage you have used.   My data used for Verizon, 305,082kb is 0.29095gb. Barely 1gb. I work from my phone a lot, You should be fine. Kilobyte Usage kilobytes unlimited 305,082

I have 8 days left in my cycle and it says i’m at 95% of my data usage (195 MB out of 200 MB).   I rarely use the internet on the phone outside of my house and in my house, I’m always using WiFI (which doesn’t affect data plans).     So my question, is what could be using more data that I think it should?   Are their “push notification” settings somewhere that I could tweak to prevent so much data being used?   It says like 20 MB is “sent” and like 170 MB is “received”, so I need to find out what is “receiving” so much data.   Any input would be appreciated.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38453730/ns/technology_and_science-wireless/   Read it and weep guys, our privacy is at risk and we’re not even afforded the decency of being warned, and worse, this is most likely increasing our data usage, so we get to PAY to have our privacy invaded.
