I am getting ready to travel to another country (Turkey) and want to be able to Facetime with my daughter. Will I be using international roaming on the cell side in addition to the WiFi network or will it be WiFi only with no additional charges?

Thanks

does facetime require wifi and cell minutes, FaceTime 3G signal, facetime cell phone minutes, facetime srilanka, facetime uses wifi or 3G

Long story, but to make it short, my daughter lost my iphone. I bought one from an individual (I bought the first one this way also). I don’t have a sim card, but the guy I bought the phone from gave me one with all of the information to activate it. Do I have to go to At&t to buy one or can I use this one and just call and activate it when I re-activate my phone? Thanks!!

I’m about to go on a yearly cabin vacation with my family and wanted to know if there were any suggestions that you could make as far as micro sim to regular sim adapters go, and if there were any compatibility issues with the micro sim being used with the adapter in a different phone (contacts wired differently or whatever).   A little back story. We’ve gone on this trip every year since 2002. In 2007, we needed emergency services for my daughter but couldn’t get cell service. We were lucky to have my sister with me who was a ham radio operator, and had her portable radio with her.   After that event, we considered abandoning the yearly vacation because of the lack of service, since my sister would not be able to come with us every year. But, my sister came through with some equipment that made our lives much easier. She bought this imported phone from the UK which came with a bunch of cable and a huge antenna. We’ve mounted all of that on the side of the cabin, ran the cable inside and are now able to get 3-4 bars on EDGE with that phone.   In the past, though, I’ve been able to pop out my iPhone sim card (2G and 3G), throw it into the imported phone and get service along with internet access just fine. However, with the micro sim card, I’m not sure exactly which adapter is preferred or if there are any compatibility issues with the contacts or between the micro sim itself and the phone. Another less important question is if the internet access will work since we can get EDGE service, which is nice for light browsing and checking email.

Once ATT announced that the unlimited data plan was no longer an option for new purchases, and given my daughter wants an iphone in July when she can upgrade, I started looking at my data usage.   Interesting fact, every night between 2 AM and 3 AM, my iphone will have data usage anywhere from 20 mb to 96000 mb ( thats right 96 thousand ).   So I started to contact ATT and doing some experiments.   I did not use the phone outside of the house for 3 days.  Data usage showed up every night.  Then I tracked where and when data usage showed up.  That data usage would show up and within an hour.  Some of the nightly so called phantom usage would take 2 days to show up.   The ATT customer service first responded that is why iphones have always had unlimited service becasue of the daily update.  Well at 20 mb a night for 30 nights thats only 600 mb, so maybe daughter could go with with 250 kb plan and be ok.  But then came a huge 96000 mb usage (I am not adding extra 0′s)( Approximately 1/4 of a month’s usage while asleep!!!!)   I once again contacted ATT.  I lost 2 1/2 hours of my life that I will never get back in an infinite loop and nonsense answers from both ATT and APPLE.  No one can explain to me why in one evening I would have used so much data – while asleep in a wifi house.   Apple suggeted to remove each and every app until the datausage stopped.   ATT asked is someone borrowing my phone….The whole house is asleep and I am not missing anything, so unless there is a person breaking into my house purposely shutting off WIFI to use my iphone, I do not believe there is anyone borrowing it.   I believe ATT will be innudated with billing complaints come July when new users see how much phantom usage they have had each night.   Let’s hope ATT will figure out what is going on!! Can anyone in the entire world please explain to me who my phone is talking to all by itself?

I am going to pre-order an iphone 4 from Apple so I can pick it up at the Apple Store on the 24th. I have a family plan with my current iphone. Will I need to go the AT&T store after I get the phone to make sure I still have a family plan after I activate the new phone since there will not be a family plan option when I pre-order? I want to make sure that I don’t get charged for both plans and also that my daughter doesn’t lose her her service. TIA.

My wife and I currently have the iPhone 3G.  We are planning on upgrading to the iPhone 4, probably in July.  Our children have old POS phones without any data plan – just voice and text.  The son’s phone (Motorola)  has very poor quality and it sounds like he is talking underwater.  The daughters phone (Pantech Duo) is temperamental at best.  It shuts off by itself or the screen goes technicolor and she cant see the screen.   Our son is currently in the Delayed Enlistment Program, due to ship out sometime within the next six months.  Our Daughter will be signing up for the Delayed Enlistment Program next month and will ship out about this time next year.  I don’t want to replace their phones and get locked into another two year contract when they will be out of the house long before that two years is up.  I don’t want them to sign up for their own contracts right now because they have no idea where they will end up.  If they end up somewhere oversea’s, the A.T. & T. contract will be worthless to them.   What I would like to do is when we upgrade our phones to the iPhone 4, give them the iPhone 3G and just let them use it as a phone (and iPod).  We already tested their sim in it and it works.  If they attempt to go somewhere (data-wise) it comes up and says a data plan is not approved for this account (I’m paraphrasing).  If they need a data connection, it works fine when it is on WiFi.   My concern is this:  Can A.T. & T. tell what kind of device is on a certain sim?  And if they see it is an iPhone, even if the data apps are not being used, can they force the data plan on to my bill?  If they can, and they do, would that extend the contract on either of the kids numbers?   I would like to be able to help out my kids in the most economical way and without extending a contract since they will be on their own before it is too far into it.  My only other option is finding a decent used phone on craigslist, but that is dumb if I have two perfectly good iPhones they can use.    Has anyone ever tried this and what was the outcome?   Thanks   Jim

If (when) the new iPhone comes out next month, I’ll probably upgrade. A family member has a 3Gs, also, but cracked her screen. I want to give her my 3Gs to replace it, but when I tried to give my 3G to my daughter, it continued to sync my contacts, etc., to it. If I do a Factory Restore, will it stop doing this?   I hope that made sense! Thanks for any help.

Hi everyone I have a question. Yesterday my Daughter had her handbag stolen. Her iphone was in it. I reported it stolen last night and it was shut off. I was told by the sells reps that I can wait until March and get a new iphone for $299. I was wondering can I buy just refurb iphone ( the cheapest one) on line out right and just switch it to the current iphone plan?    Thanks!

I recently upgraded my daughters iPhone from a 2G to the 3GS. I have the family plan with 3 phones, 2 regular phones and the 1 iPhone. I am now left with the old 2G phone that is not used.  I’m sure that this has been asked before but if I take the sim card out of my non iPhone and place it in the old 2G, will it work? I already have a data plan for my daughter’s 3Gs. Would I be required to get another data plan for the 2G? Seems like a waist to just put the 2G away without using it. I would like to use it as a phone. I don’t need texting.
