The announcement comes after Apple said Friday that it will provide iPhone 4 buyers with a free bumper or case to alleviate reception issues. If users are still not happy with their smartphones, they can return the device for a “full refund” and no re-stocking fee – also within 30 days, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said at a press conference.
When asked if that applied to users who wanted to get out of their AT&T contracts, Jobs said, “I believe so.” That is true if you are within your 30-day trial period, but those who want to return their iPhone 4 after that time period are still beholden to the contract and the re-stocking fee. Basically, the same rules apply – no special rules regarding contracts will apply to this iPhone 4 refund policy.
“Our normal, 30-day return policy applies,” the AT&T spokesman said.
“We support [Apple's] decision to provide free cases to folks and to waive the usual re-stocking fee,” he continued. “We’re going to do the same.”
AT&T and Apple said they will have more information on free cases and how the distribution will work at a later date, he said.
