Facebook app use on the iPhone is trailing the use of the Android app in daily active users. The iPhone is still tops in monthly active users though.

Holiday sales for the iPhone are booming as other smartphone makers struggle. Five of the top fifteen devices sold of late are different versions of the iPhone.

Hi I ordered my iPhone yesterday at 7:00 am EST and got an Order Number soon after. I assumed everything was OK and that I would get the phone on the 24th.   This morning I received an email from AT&T saying that they needed to verify my address before they could finish processing the order. I called and gave the rep all my info and now the order is showing up in AT&Ts system. Now though it says that the order date was 6/16 and not 6/15 . The rep assured me that my order was never cancelled and that I didn’t lose my “spot”.   I was wondering if I still have a chance at getting the phone delivered on launch date or soon after? The only reason I ask is because I will be away for the holiday weekend and will have to make alternate arrangements if the phone comes when I’m not home.   Thanks.

By Slash Lane Published: 03:45 PM ES     AT&T reported its first-quarter results on Wednesday, and Apple’s exclusive carrier partner in the U.S. revealed that it activated 2.7 million iPhones, with more than a third of those customers new to AT&T. With a total of net gain of 1.9 million wireless subscribers added to AT&T, that means that nearly half of the new customers to AT&T during the quarter came because of the iPhone. The first-quarter result also represents a decrease from 3.1 million iPhones activated during the previous, holiday quarter. On Tuesday, Apple revealed that it sold 8.75 million iPhones during the same timeframe, which represented the company’s largest quarter ever. That was even better than the holiday quarter, when the company shipped a then-record 8.7 million iPhones. AT&T’s reduction shows how important international growth has become for the iPhone platform. That was a point Apple executives made during Tuesday’s earnings conference call , when Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook said that both additional carriers and existing partners were important to the company’s record growth. Cook failed, however, to reveal whether Apple intends to end its exclusive arrangement with AT&T in the U.S. He said though Apple has seen good results with multiple carrier options in other countries, the company is viewing the situation on a country-by-country level to conclude what is in its best interests. AT&T’s first quarter saw the wireless carrier earn $30.6 billion in consolidated revenues, up $78 million from the same period a year ago. The company brought in $0.42 diluted earnings per share, and $0.59 before a previously disclosed non-cash charge of $995 million from a change to taxes related to the Medicare Part D subsidy. “We’re off to a great start to the year, and our fundamental outlook for the business continues to be quite positive,” said Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and chief executive officer. The company saw a 10.3 percent increase in wireless service revenues, and added 3.3 million 3G postpaid integrated wireless devices. AT&T now has 26.8 million 3G devices on its network, more than double its total from a year ago. “AT&T continues to set the pace in mobile broadband, the industry’s number one growth driver, and our wireless business continues to perform at a high level, with improved margins, lower churn and overall revenues growing at a healthy clip,” Stephenson said. “AT&T has outstanding mobile broadband capabilities today and a terrific technology path forward to lead the next wave of wireless innovation and growth. We’re investing and executing aggressively to deliver on that potential.”   Story found here:  http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/04/21/att_adds_2_7m_iphones_1_9m_customers_in_q1_2010.html

MacWorld Apple Reports Record Sales, Profits for the Holiday Season January 25, 2010 By Philip Michaels Apple posted record revenue and profits for the 2009 holiday season, according to the fiscal first quarter numbers reported by the company on Monday. For the three-month period ending December 29, 2009, Apple tallied sales of $15.68 billion and a net quarterly profit of $3.38 billion. That compares to year-ago figures of $11.88 billion in sales and $2.26 billion in net quarterly profit. If those year-ago numbers seem off from what Apple reported last January, it’s because the company retrospectively adopted the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s amended accounting standards during the 2010 first quarter. Adopting those standards significantly alters how Apple accounts for certain items–most significantly iPhone and Apple TV sales. For the 2010 fiscal first quarter, Apple sold 3.36 million Macs, up 33 percent from the 2.5 million units the company sold in last year’s first quarter. The fall revamp of the iMac line helped boost desktop sales for the quarter. Apple sold 1.23 million desktops in its first quarter of 2010, an increase of nearly 70 percent from the 728,00 desktops it sold a year ago. However, portable sales continue to drive the Mac business. Apple sold just under 2.13 million laptops during the first quarter–63 percent of all the Macs it sold during the quarter were portables. iPhone sales doubled to 8.7 million for the quarter. However, iPod sales fell 8 percent year-over-year, as Apple sold 21 million music players during the quarter.

I’ve bought my daughter a gift card for an iPhone in Massachusetts, though she lives in NYC and has a NY cellphone number on her BlackBerry. She wants to redeem it here for the holiday. I’m told it’s not impossible for her to have her out-of-town number activated in a different state, but I just want to confirm this is possible. Can anyone help?
