We’ve been talking about this phone for months and months and yes, months, I kid you not. The Samsung Gem has news spanning back to August 4, 2010 and it’s got regular updates all the way up to the present where it’s available on U.S. Cellular for basically free ($ 29.99 after $ 80 mail-in rebate and 2-year contract.) At one point we saw it on Bluegrass, another time we had it coming out with Verizon, once it even cost $ 200! Crazy time! Now we’ve got it in our hands and it is truly, yes truly, a little gem.

First Impressions

This phone looks utterly unique. It features a large diamond-shaped home button on the front, an upside-down triangle for an ear-level speaker, and another diamond on the back to cover up the camera hole. The front also features several more physical buttons including call, hang up, menu, and back, and there’s everyone’s favorite on the right side – a physical camera button! It’s all plastic chassis, a tiny 3.2-inch screen above. Rounded on the top and bottom, flat along the sides and top, and a nice maroon/red battery cover back “with Google.”

This is going to be a hot contender for those looking to get into Android without a lot of initial cost and an ever-so-slightly unique looking handset. We’ve got a hunch that it’ll be lasting long with the 1500 mAh battery, it weighs essentially nothing, and the last time we were looking at a U.S. Cellular phone, the data did not drop once, not even in the deep woods of Northern Minnesota.

So we’ve got high hopes.

3GS IOS:4.1 & Hotmail

My phone died, so I had it replaced.  Only thing different is the OS version.  Hotmail will not send now, it says "the user name or password for SMTP:[email protected]@smtp.live.com" is incorrect".  I can get my mail though?   Any thoughts?   Thanks in advance. by dansays My child wants to grow an apple tree from [...]

I live in an area where 2G is stronger than 3G (I seem to get 1 more bar when I turn off 3G). However, once I do that I get a weird buzz sound (like there was a static interference). Its the same kind of sound you here from computer speakers when you place a phone near them. But I tested it away from potential interference sources. Once I turned on 3G, the voice was clean and there was no more buzz sound!   I hear those sounds on low when I put the phone to my head. When I  use the speakerphone I hear no static sounds.   I had Blackberry Curve 8310 before with ATT that did calls on 2G only and never had this issue.    I am using phone without case waiting for a free one in the mail, but I don’t hold the bottom and it still does that.    Should I take it to Apple Store and diagnose it? Did you have the same problem?

" alt="iPhone 4 users, post your battery usage:" class="left-thumbnail"/>

The iPhone 4 has the best battery life of any smartphone that I have had so far. I’m getting 7 hours of usage in a little under a 2 day period.  How about you guys, what is your battery life like?     Here is what I am seeing with my iPhone 4:   3G ON WiFi ON Bluetooth OFF Location Services ON Push Mail OFF, Fetch hourly ON. Auto-Brightness ON, and set at 75% My usage: Voice calls, messaging, Safari, iPod player, Navigation, Weather & News, YouTube, Camera/Video, and email.

Hi,   Having a problem that I hope somebody can help me with.  The company has an OWA server that people can use to check thier email.  Several of our users have Iphones and everything works well.  One of the managers recently got an IPAD device.  Intitally it seems everything was working good.  He and the IPAD recently went to Europe (UK).  Before leaving he signed up for the international data plan (the larger one).  When arriving, we weren’t sure (neither was the first ATT rep we spoke with) as to wheter we should enable ‘Data Roaming’.  When our user switched on the IPAD (in the UK) it said something to the effect of ”Turn on Data roaming or find WIFI”.  We fi8nally got that sorted ut (yes you need to enable data roaming even with an ATT plan) Now we have an issue with the device not being able to see mail in sub-folders.  When in the sates we did not have an issue.  I directed the user to enable push for these sub-folders (it was not enabled) he did so, but still cannot see any emails within the folders (I think everything is fine with the INBOX – only subfolders are the problem).  I wanted to know, has anybody had this issue?  If so, is there a fix for it?  Thanks in advance.

Why is AT&T so cheap on how they mail their phones to customers.  Why is it so hard to send these expensive phones with a signature required.    The last five (5) phones I have ordered from AT&T have all been delivered by FedEX and left on my front porch outside to where anyone can walk off with it (live in an apartment complex).   I came home and find an iPhone 4 sitting at the base of the door and anyone walking past could see it and have walked off with it (especially kids playing outside).  At least this one wasn’t left at someones else’s door like 2 of them were be FedEx in the past.   Never again if I can help it will I deal with online/phone sales to where they have to mail me anything expensive.

Got the phone at 10:30am and all activated by 11:00.  Even transferred all my stuff (contacts, mail, pictures, apps, etc) without a hitch.  Only thing missing is about 20 songs what were on the Ipod portion of my 2g….why weren’t those transferred over????
