MobileMe question

I'm trying out MobileMe for 60 days and have it set up on my computer for synching, etc. with Outlook. I'm getting a "dotmacsynchclient has stopped working" error message every time I turn on the PC, and every so often while I'm on it. I'm pretty sure this is tied to my Outlook program as its been acting up lately (not sending and receiving, not retaining my passwords so I have to put them in every time, thereby not being able to work automatically), so its probably not synching with the MobilMe program correctly either. I've tried for several days to get Outlook to work correctly, to no avail. I'm thinking I could shut down Outlook altogether and no longer associate MobileMe with it but I wonder what limitations that would put on the MobilMe program, if any. Do I need Outlook to operate MobileMe, or can I use the program without it? Thanks in advance.

is "mobile me" guaranteed to work?

Suppose someone lost his phone or it got stolen. As soon as he gets home he goes online, logs in to his mobile me account and sees a list of all the places the phone has been at earlier that day. With the help of local law enforcement authorities it probably would not be hard to question the residents until the thief or finder of the phone appears. But what if that person removes the sim, restores the phone to factory settings, or simply turns it off before he gets home? Unless that's not the way mobile me works it seems that in that case mobile me would be useless. Does apple or AT&T offer discounted replacements or something similar if the phone is not recovered? Wisconsin man uses GPS service to locate iPhone stolen from his car

This guy was dumb and lucky at the same time.  I can't believe he left his iPhone in an unlocked car but he was lucky enough to track it using MobileMe and get the police to get it back.   http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_ODD_PHONE_RETURNED?SITE=WIMIL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

contact info has disappeared from iPhone!

I just found that contact info is missing from my iPhone! When I click on "favorites", the numbers are there, but there is no name associated with them. When I click on contacts, the names are there, but there is no other data! Any idea how that could have happened? I have not checked data on PC yet, but I have not done a recent iTunes sync. However, I am using MobileMe. Could my data be gone???   If the data is still on PC and I sync with Outlook, will the missing data on the phone overwrite the data on Outlook, or will it be restored to the phone?   Thanks! This is scary!

Misplaced iPhone

So, I misplaced my iPhone 3G today.  Of course I have been searching all over the place trying to find a way to locate it without having to report it lost or stolen.  If I choose the option to report it and it is completely turned off, how will I ever have the chance of finding it? If it is deactivated, how do I call it to try to locate it?  I really do not want to choose that option until I am positive that it is not in my car, house, office, etc.   I know it wasn't stolen so it defeats the purpose of trying to find it if it is completely disabled.  With today's technology, I am having a hard time understanding why I can't call Apple or At&t and have them access the settings to turn on the ringer if it is set to vibrate or enable the GPS if it is turned off.  I also do not understand why I can't remotely access the phone utilizing iTunes or my At&t account.   I know, my bad for not buying the MobileMe service; however, if this is such a "Smartphone", why wasn't there something built in to locate it - prior to the MobileMe app?   I am sure there are a lot of people out there like me - I didn't expect to misplace the phone so why would I even think, or know about all the "find me" apps that I have come across in the gigantic waste of time and resources.   Believe me, if there is an Iphone guru who has some magical words of wisdom, I am more than willing to take some good advice. If push comes to shove and I don't come across it tomorrow, I'll report it and lay down the coin for a new one.  My life is in that little box of knowledge and at this point, I am not ready to give that up.   Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Someone please lead me in the right direction.

can’t get email on computer now that it’s working on iphone

It took several days to finally get my email to work on my new iphone, but now I can't access it on my computer.  I get a message that says acct is locked because a different email program is accessing the mail...ie the mobile device. The problem is that to get the email on my phone we had to change the incoming and outgoing mail server host names on the phone.  So now the computer doesn't have the same info.  I tired to set up an email account through outlook as the att store recommended, but that didn't work.   Have spent hours on the phone and in the att store but no resolution.  Spoke with several att tech support people in India and elsewhere this morning but they all say they can't access my account.  Our account was originally a worldnet account.  Frustrated out of my mind!!!   Can anyone please help??  Thanks so much!
