Hi, All -

I have an original iphone which I am happy with. However, I want to upgrade to iphone 4 and give it to my friend as a present. Is it possible to upgrade online, get it shipped and when I receive it, never activate it? Just keep using my old iphone.

I went through similar posts on this forum and there seems to be 2 opinions people have: 1. i can do it and ATT wont do anything as long as i sign another 2 year contract; 2. if i dont  activate new iphone 4 within 30 days, ATT will charge me full price of iphone 4

Did anyone try this? I dont mind another 2 year contract but obviously dont want to get billed another 400 after I give the phone to my friend.

Thank you!

buy iphone and never activate, upgrade to iPhone 4 on Att but never activate it

Breaking up monotany of checking my order status every thirty seconds, what is the first app you will download to your new iphone 4 ? Also I was remembering the first day I got my original iphone and was hooked ever since Feel free to share your story.

Beginning on June 16, my original iphone began transmitting 2+MB of data “internet/MEdia Net” at 2 am every morning. Prior to this, my records show a daily data transmission at that time in the range of 8-50KB.   I changed to the 200MB plan when I upgraded to iphone 4 on June 24 and have begun monitoring data – that is how i discovered this escalation in data use. Both existing and new iphones are always on wi-fi at 2am. On 6/25, this 2am data usage jumped to 5MB, so I have switched off cell data altogether.   What is going on? At this rate, my iphone will use all 200MB of data in a month with these 2 am data uploads. I saw complaints about this on the Apple forum with no solution provided by ATT.   For 2 1/2 years, with my original iphone, I used an average of 30-50MB of data per month, so I was quite comfortable signing up for the 200MB plan.    Is ATT going to fix this problem?    Signe

Hello Everyone, This is my first post so please forgive me if i posted it in the wrong section. I have the original iphone (2G) which i purchased over two years ago at an apple store in NY. I opened a two year contract online at the time with AT&T. However, my contract expired in February 2010, and I am currently on a month to month with AT&T. Currently i am paying $20.00 for unlimited data. My question is if i purchase the new Iphone 4G will i be forced into opening a new two year contract with their new data plan charges or can i just activate the phone and continue with AT&T on a month to month basis? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Maybe someone here can lead me in the right direction, trying to set up my daughter’s iphone email for her. She has the original iphone, not 3g and she has tried but it is not going through. She uses ATT webmail as her email. So since that is not listed (which makes no since since it is ATT) is that considered other? Also is it a pop mail? Are their instructions for this anywhere?
