Really Bad Reception Since 2 Weeks Someone Help

So hey there guys I am new ATT customer since 9/16/2010. Since about 2 weeks I have been having problems with reception first I realized it was in my house and now its about 5-6 blocks away as weel!

 

I live in New York so basically today It was a great way for me to make sure this is just not my house , if there is anyone from New York so I visited other parts of Queens and then when I was getting back home I was trying to text someone which is like 5-6 or maybe even 7 blocks away from my House and I had full bars and was not able to send that text or even make a call.

 

In my house I either get 1 bar or “Searching…” with 1 bar I can never make a call or anything.

 

So I called ATT and the service rep told me to go to Apple and get a replacment phone is that guy serious? it works perfectly fine in other areas and I will go to apple and get new phone because the guy wont admit that there is problem with my area ?

 

Someone who can point in anyone direction on how to solve this please someone help =)

I like att services overall I am not complaining but I just want to get this resolved. THank you!

I want to use iphone 3gs as an ipod touch..att help

Hi I m new in america and as everyone likes iphone i bought an iphone 3gs over ebay and i was using it as ipod touch.i cant use it as iphone 1. I dont have a credit history so noone gives me a contract. 2. i cant afford 70$ right now.   because of the firmware upgrade. my cell phone is not activated anymore..i dont have the original sim from the original buyer or whatever i didnt even knew i needed to have a sim to use it as an ipod. The other person from whom i bought say he dont have a sim either he lost it ..   My only question which is very simple.( and i read all the forums abt it. and got contradicting info)    How can i use my iphone 3gs 32gb new firmware to activate and use it as an ipod touch. I dont have an att sim, i dont think i can get one coz i dont havee credit history.   Can i use att sim from someone else to just activate it? atleast i can use it as an ipod. and i was using it tht way till i upgraded. please someone with real knowledge or probably att employee help me out.. i also heard i can just go to att and they ll activate it for free even if i dont wanna buy att plan? is this true? please guide me. just wanna use it as an ipod :(
