My husband and I will be in Europe for 2 1/2 weeks. I am trying to figure out the most cost effective way to stay in touch with our family. I have an Iphone, so I downloaded Skype. My understanding is that I can call home using a wireless connection for Skype to another Skype user at no cost. If I call a land line or another cell that is now on Skype I can use a pay as you go account through Skype.  What happens if someone calls me Skype number? Will it automatically go to wireless or could I potentially incur roaming charges? Does it make sense to leave my phone off unless i am making a call? In another post I found the steps someone else outlined:  1) Forward my voice calls directly to my voicemail box – to avoid ANY calls reaching my phone (ie. avoid any roaming charges at all for incoming calls) How do I do this?   2) Turn Data Roaming off  3) Turn Push off, Set Fetch to manual (though, I don’t know if these matter if the Data Roaming is turned off? or do they?)  4) Use Wi-Fi networks only for checking e-mail, maps, google, etc. (I am assuming i can just turn 3G off while I am gone.)  5) Send/Receive SMS at a AT&T rate unless I am on Skype. (Skype to Skype IMs are free. Is that correct? If I am not on Skype will I receive the IMs when I log in similar to Yahoo.)  6) All my outgoing calls will be at the roaming rate from AT&T unless I call using Skype on a wireless connection. Then the appropriate fees will apply determined by country or if the user is another Skype user.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Valerie
