Last time I reviewed a case for the SGS II it was the super-tough Body Glove Defender, and as I said then it was certainly not great in the looks department. Well now you have another option, and while its not as rugged as the Body Glove, it looks great enough that you may not care!

The case in question is the SGP Neo-Hybrid for the Samsung Galaxy S II, the one that I have is the Satin-Silver version. If you’re wondering about SGP, they are one of the premium accessory makers for all brands of smartphones, and this particular case shows why.

The Neo Hybrid is exactly what the name says, a hybrid case made of both silicon and plastic. This combination is perfect in the way they have built it.

The silicon component is a kind of glove that fits onto the phone, the plastic surround then clips onto the silicon with the back plate still leaving the silicon exposed.

The package screams premium, which other case comes with a holographic sticker to prove its real? Once you get the package open, you are greeted with the rear of the case, flip that off and the pleasant surprise comes, the case is also supplied with a high quality screen protector which is 25% thicker than the usual screen protectors.

Another part that points out this is a premium case, there is a code inside which you can enter into the SGP website to authenticate that the case is real.

Once you fit the case on, first fitting the silicon inner and then the plastic frame, you’re ready to go.

The case fits great onto the phone. The plastic edges with the silicon back blend perfectly to give you a nice grip on the phone. Similar to the Body Glove the SGP Case also has a sort of lip over the edge of the front of the phone but I found this one to be much less intrusive compared to the other case. This case misses the cover over the top of the phone where the speaker is, so that is some protection lost. Though it must be said that SGP has a whole range of cases and the Neo-Hybrid is more for the looks than protection.

What makes me love this case is that it fixes one of the fatal flaws of the Defender, the way it covers the power and volume buttons. Where the defender left them feeling flat and hard to use, the SGP manages to cover the buttons with the silicon but at the same time still keep them feeling as if they were bare, in other words- its perfect. The rest of the cut-outs are also perfectly cut and shaped.

Having used the SGP for a week I can say for sure this will stay on my SGS II for a very long time. Unlike other cases I actually love how this one feels. It manages to be light, thin, doesn’t attract dirt but at the same time offers a decent amount of protection.

If you want a case that protects your phone from all conditions, the Body Glove is for you. But if you are looking for a case that looks and feels great, the Neo-Hybrid is for you. It does though as a premium product carry a price, and this comes in at a hefty $ 27 on Amazon. With the currency moving as it is, it depends on the day you buy it to see if it is worth it in Rands.
