I’ve had my 3GS for about 3 weeks now and the only thing I’m not impressed with is the sound quality when listening to music.  Too much treble, not enough bass, not even when using the EQ and setting the bass booster.  There is good sound clarity I’ll admit, but not a wide range of sound depth.  I have to say I had better sound quality on my Blackjack 2.  I’ve used various headphones with no better results.  The sound quality has been the only dissapointment with my new iPhone.

Maybe how I ripped the music from my cd’s isn’t in a good quality format and hopefully you all can give me some help.  The first time I ripped music from some cd’s I used Import Using = AAC Encoder with Setting = High Quality (128kbps).  Wasn’t impressed with that at all.  So I deleted an entire playlist off my iPhone and out of iTunes and re-ripped the cd’s with Import Using = AAC Encoder with Setting = iTunes Plus (256kbps).  I noticed a very small increase in sound quality but the music still had too much treble and not enough bass.

So what’s the deal?  Does everybody else think the sound quality is good or what?  What else can I try?  I know I had more deeper bass sounds with my previous phone.  With the iPhone pretty much having the world renoun iPod built into it, I expected the same if not better range of dynamic sound quality, boy was I disappointed.

Another funny thing is I go into the EQ and change the setting to Rock, then turned the EQ off then Rock back on and there was absolutly no change in what I heard.  Both the Rock and EQ off setting sound the same.  I’m sure I don’t have a faulty iPhone, it just seems the sound quality sucks.

Did I not rip my cds with the correct settings or does iTunes just not import music that well??  Does music purchased from the iTunes Store sound better??  Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks.
