Hi all, I’ve read the following link on upgrading swapping, but I have slightly different circumstances:

http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/articles-resources/iphone4upgradesupport.jsp

Me and my mom are part of a 4 person family plan. I’m not eligible for an upgrade, but she is. I was hoping to use her upgrade to get the iPhone 4 at Radio Shack this week because it’s $50 off. Now as I understand it, Radio Shack activates the phone during the purchase, so the SIM will get locked to her number.

What are my options in this case? Can I take the phone to an AT&T store and get a replacement microsim with my number?Another thing to mention is that I live away from my mom, but both of us are authorized to make changes on the family plan.

As soon as the iPhone is activated, I assume she will lose service on her old RAZR? What’s the step for getting that phone working again? Will the sim reactivate once I get a new microsim, or will she have to get a new sim as well?

Also, are replacement sims free? I’ve heard differing answers, some say you can just go in and ask for a replacement sim for any reason and they’ll give it to you, while I’ve heard others report charges ranging from $15 to $30.

att replacement microsim, can i use someone else\s upgrade on my family plan att at radioshack, Mobile phone swap upgrade, swapping upgrades on family plan Verizon, upgrade swap at radio shack

here is my story 1st – ordered iphone 4 on the 19th shipped  on the 22nd delivered on the 23rd Swiped off my doorstep…(thanks fedex) 2nd – ordered another Iphone 4 on the 26th shipped  on the 31st delivered (and held at fedex) on the 2nd here is the issue – this second phone they sent me wont hold a charge when plugged into wall outlet, and wont even turn on when plugged into pc – I can get into Dfu mode i can hit the restore/update button – but i get ‘the 1601′ error.. beyond help i call 611 on my other phone 2 hours have gone by i have talked to 3 att reps and 2 apple reps (one who is unbelievably slow and should not be working phone customer support) and the best Apple/Att can do is Charge me $30 bucks (+$1199 credit card hold) to have one shipped to me ‘overnight’ or ship mine first wait 5 days then they ship me one so that means waiting another 2weeks.. APPLE – $30- you gotta be kidding me just send me another one, after all this – i get a broken iphone and i have to shell out another $30 to get a working (lets hope) one…wth Not a chance apple and to top that off being on hold for 47 minutes with  what a wonderful world- Louis Armstrong joy to the world beautiful day – u2 you’ve got a friend in me – toy story guy here comes the sun – beatles all this uplifting music DOES NOT help out at all – infact it makes the matter completly ridiculous 1. ATT should pay the $30 advanced replacement fee – 2. apple should provide att with more iphones, so i wouldnt have to deal with them to begin with 3. $300 down and a month (almost) without my iphone can drive a guy crazy 4. Oh they WILL wave the $30 fee IF! i can put a $1199 Hold on a credit card. And buy there BS extended warrenty/tech support… What the….No. 5. i opted for the ‘free’ replacement – i have to take the phone to a ups store wait 5 days for them to get it then wait another 4 days to get the 3rd and hopfully last apple product i buy for at least a year or 2 – /end

Ok so i’ve tried everything and i don’t want to take the phone back but it seems like i’m getting nowhere. I have an iphone 4 that was an upgrade to my previous 3g. Monday i downloaded ios4 to my 3g and everything was working fine. come thursday i loaded my new phone and did a backup of my old phone…everything was working fine except i couldn’t send mms….until i figured out my sms’ weren’t getting out either. i called att and they fed me some garbage about problems in my area but i’ve not encountered any other people with the same problem (iphone4 and other att users) Att sent me a test message which i received and verified that i had messaging on my account. I’ve restored it three times as a new phone but the problem is still there. I’ve read that mms was messed up with some users after iOS4 but can’t verify if anyone was affected with sms either. Does anyone have any info as to why this would be happeneing? i’m leaning heavily toward a software defect or else i shouldn’t have been able to receive att’s text. its been 4 days now and i just want to text!!! Thanks in advance.

After I activate my new I phone 4  I intend to donate my old 3g phone to a family member to replace her origional I phone.  Will she need to extend her existing AT&T contract to activate it?  Can the changes all be made using I tunes or do I need to take the phone in to the store?

I got my brand new iPhone 3GS on the 12th of this month.  Suddenly, I pick it up today and a message is across the front, “No Sim Card Installed”.  Well over an hour with AT&T support on the phone got me exactly nothing.  I was told I have to take the phone into a store.  In the meantime until I can get into a store location, I have no phone service at all. This was my first experience with AT&T support and I was really let down.  I spoke with 3 different people and all asked the same scripted questions and gave the same scripted answers.  The first woman couldn’t seem to even read very well, so even that didn’t go well. Is this the level of support, or total lack thereof, that I should expect going forward?

I was thinking about getting an iphone.  my husband’s phone is up for an upgrade soon and i was hoping he could get the iphone and give it to me and he use my phone.  Is that legal?  what if he wanted to take the phone for a few days with his sim card in it, will it charge his number the $30 along with charging my number or is the unlimited media for the entire plan? (we are on the same plan)  not made of money here and i just want to know all the facts before we jump in to something
