Here is my situation. I have a 3G which I purchased in August 2008 meaning I’m out of my two-year contract but I am still using the phone. In a month, I’ll be moving overseas and living abroad for 1-3 years.

I’m trying to decide what’s the best thing to do with my iPhone as I want to keep my number and if I make trips back to the US, I’d like to be able use my iPhone while here. However, I obviously don’t want to pay for the iPhone every month while I’m not even using it.

Ideally, I’d like to freeze my account and then whenever I return to the US reactivate it so I can use my iPhone. Is this possible?

moving abroad what to do with US mobile phone plan, moving abroad with iphone, moving abroad wih iphone, moving overseas itunes account, moving overseas keep my cell phone

I have an Apple Iphone 4, and when I sync the phone, the photos I have taken using the phone, do not get copied to the computer or do they? If so where do they go? I have checked virtually every folder and cannot find them, please help.

Hello. I haven’t spoken with Apple or ATT yet as I just got my iPhone4 last week but I was using an iPhone 3G. In my home with my 3G I almost never got a dropped call. With the iPhone4 I’m continually gettting dropped calls and one bar indications. The phone is running 4.01. I am using the phone bare without a case. Waiting for one in the mail. I am also avoiding holding the bottom of the phone. I don’t think this is the issue but something is. I have rebooted the phone serveral times. Each time I reboot my bars go to full and then over a few minutes drop down to one or two.  Any ideas before I call ATT and Apple and complain? Thanks.

Hello,   I few months back I cancelled my Iphone contract as I was moving overseas (and ATT did not offer any account suspension options that I deemed financially reasonable).   I now have an activated Iphone 3G that I own free and clear.  When I return to the US in a few months, I may go back to ATT. But I have been unable to find any information as to what difference if any it makes to already own my Iphone.  I am hoping that I will be able return to using the Phone without a contract and just pay month to month, as ATT will not be subsidizing my phone in any way.  Is this a possibility?  Are there any incentives to induce former customers to return to ATT?    Thanks, B Michener

My iPhone 3Gs, which I have been using for almost a full year now, is suddenly having trouble staying connected to the cellular network.  It is not always a problem, but there are times throughout the day when the network connection in the upper left hand corner either says “Searching…..” or “No Service” – even when I am right in the middle of the AT&T network area.   I am not using the phone any differently than I have for the previous year.  The iPhone has not been damaged, gotten wet, etc.  This is simply an acute problem that started in the past two weeks and seems to be getting progressively worse, i.e. the time it takes to actually connect to the network is getting longer and longer and longer.   I have tried resetting the network settings.  That seemed to work for a few hours, then the problems returned.   I have tried switching into Airplane mode and then shutting Airplane mode off.  That worked the first time, but now when I click it back from Airplane mode it goes right back to “Searching….” and just stays that way.   Is anyone else having this problem?   Is there a solution??   Thank you for any help you can give.

I am currently with ATT and I’ll be receving an iPhone 2G from a friend and I was wondering if ATT would force me to add the $20 data plan for 2G device? OR I’ll still be okay using the phone w/o data plan. My current plan with ATT is only voice and no data.   Any input is appreciated.   Amit

Hey all – I am about to pull my hair out. For the past few months now, I have been experiencing sporadic static interuption on my calls. I will go days when using the phone as a phone is useless and then have other days where the sound is crystal clear and I am fine. The static is so bad that I can’t hear the other person speak and they cannot hear me speak.   For example this week, Monday was fine, Tues – Wed had static, Thurs was fine, but this morning the static is back. I have been told that it is an AT&T coverage problem, but I’m not sure how to fix or address this. I was really hoping to avoid an upgrade for a little while longer even though I am eligible, but it is getting so frustrating. Any thoughts?

Since it was obvious that AT&T failed to successfully and reliably enable MMS (notice I didn’t say successfully LAUNCH MMS) from hundreds of users on forums that I’ve read, I held off on upgrading.  I sifted through tons of tech notes, hints, tips, you name it.  I finally waited for 3.1.2 with the new carrier uprade from ATT.  I power-cycled, I even prayed to GOD ALMIGHTY ….and still no MMS outside of AT&T.  Oh sure, it works with the other AT&T users I tried, but it failed with the three other carriers that do happen to represent a large calling community. In fact, very few of my friends are with ATT and the ones who are are sorry they switched and just counting down the T-365 days to go back.  The worst offense was not being able to send or receive to Verizon users.  I even had them update their PRL profiles as was suggested on the Verizon forum — because YES – there is an ENTIRE Verizon forum dedicated to complaining that they can receive MMS from everyone in the Continental U.S. *except* Att users.  I’m in a major metro city in midwest with full coverage from almost all the carriers and not in some po-dunk little town with signal issues.   So what’s up with that? Perhaps its the IMEI file, but I haven’t gotten any ATT person to be able to check that yet. Has anyone successfully MMS’d (I’m talking about using the Phone icon at the bottom of the txt messaging window to attach a photo)someone to Verizon??  If so, what OS are you on (be specific), and what carrier upgrade are you on?  And did you have to call ATT first to make it work?  This is friggin frustrating.  MMS is not the end of the world, but it’s pretty indignant for ATT to make such a big deal out of offering a service that BLOWS so miserably.  It’s really embarassing for them.  At this rate, Verizon may change their minds about turing down Apple.

I purchased my iPhone 3G back on 7/24/09 and I use the internet and apps about 2 – 4 hours a day and talk less than 15 minutes on the phone. I have been charging the phone every day to a day and a half. Recently I have not been using the phone any more than usual and I sometimes have to charge the phone twice in one day. When I noticed this issue I deleted my most recent apps and that didn’t help. Sometimes while using the internet after about 15 minutes the back of the phone seems a littler warmer than usual, like the processor is being overworked or something. I thought I had an app running in the background, this is why I deleted my most recent apps. I haven’t contacted apple yet. I just had to make a genius bar trip last month to have my wife’s phone replaced because of a software issue. I have reset the network, powered the phone on/off and did a hard reset. Any thoughts?

I don’t plan using the phone for the internet while on the go too much so I don’t want to get a data plan. I WOULD like to have the GPS function though. I understand that the phone would need to download the maps data from the web, but can the maps I need be [...]
