Windows live/ hotmail

I just switched to a windows live account, hoping to make this my primary email. When I set it up through other email, the setup is fine, however my folders and subfolsers are not showing up. Granted, the email is address is new, and my inbox is also not updating emails that I already read and sorted on my computer. Could someone tell me if windows live is not fully compatible, or let me know what I should do. I have a gmail account so I could just use that if I had too! Thanks!
